Ingredients

  • 9 cups rice krispie cereal
  • 20 ounces marshmallows mini or large
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Grease and line with parchment paper a 9 x 13 inch baking sheet or pan. If using a baking sheet, make sure it's a rimmed baking sheet. Set aside.
  • In a large pot set over medium heat, add the butter. Give a good stir and let it melt completely. This will take about 2 minutes. Add the marshmallows and stir immediately and allow the marshmallows to melt as you stir the mixture. This will take about 2 - 3 minutes. Depending on if you are using mini or large marshmallows. Instantly remove from heat once the marshmallows are melted.
  • Add the vanilla extract and salt and stir. Add the cereal and stir with a wooden spoon until it's completely incorporated.
  • Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking dish. This will be really sticky and you will need to scrape it out of the pot. Using the back of a wooden spoon, evenly spread out the rice krispie mixture. Flatten it out and make sure it's evenly spread out. Add sprinkles over the top.
  • Leave to set for about an hour. Cut into stars and store in an airtight container. Will keep for about three days.

TIPS FOR GETTING THESE TREATS JUST RIGHT
  • Follow the recipe exactly - don't change anything. The amount of rice krispies, butter and marshmallows is key to getting these chewy and not dry. Don't add or take away anything, please!
  • Use a wet spoon - to flatten out the mixture in the pan, it's best to wet the back of a spoon to make life really easy.
  • Dip the cutter into water- yes, it helps in cutting the shapes.
