Ingredients

For the buns:

  • 3 1/2 Cups flour
  • 1 Tablespoons dry active yeast
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons salt
  • 1 Egg beaten
  • 3/4 Cups warm water * more if needed

Other:

  • Egg white beaten
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Stir to combine.
  • Add the egg and the water. Stir with a wooden spoon until it starts to come together into a dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and start to knead the dough. Push it down and continue to knead and flip the dough until it bounces back when touched. This will take anywhere between 5 - 10 minutes. Cover the dough and leave it to rise until it's doubled in size. Between 1 - 2 hours.
  • After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a ball. Place it on a lightly floured surface and cut it in half. Then cut each section into four equal parts. You will have eight pieces of dough.
  • Roll each piece into a ball.
  • Grease or line a large baking tray with parchment paper. Place all the dough balls on the tray, equally spaced apart. Flatten each ball to about a 3 inch disk. Cover and leave to rise until they are large and puffy, this will be more than doubled in size. About an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Lightly brush the tops of the buns with the egg wash. Sprinkle over the sesame seeds.
  • Bake for about 15 - 18 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Can serve straight away or store in an airtight container to use in a day or two. Can be frozen.
