What a cute little Halloween snack idea. These Witches Broomstick Pretzel and Cheese Snacks will sure to be a hit at your party. A pretzel stick wrapped with a cheese slice and tied with a fresh chive. These only use three basic ingredients and are super easy to make!
When my kids were small, I loved making Halloween special for them. There were pretty much no lengths I wouldn’t go through to make it feel magical and spooky. From late night costume making, frustrating pinata making, endless cupcakes for parties, making about 200 cut out bats (yes, we did that!), and we even spent days one year making paper machรฉ dummies for the front garden. I could go on and on with the countless Halloween efforts that were made throughout the years, but this is a recipe blog….haha.
And like all parties, food was quite often front and center. Once upon a time there was pretty much noting I enjoyed more than making appetizers for parties. I used to have more energy…hahaha. Anyway, a few years back I saw this cute idea for Witches Broomstick Snacks and I though what a great idea. I knew instantly, I was going to make them. the kids loved them. Mind you, some were skeptical about the chives. Did I even know what a chive was when I was 10? I’m going with probably not. But they were all eaten up and I knew I’d make them again at some point. So finally, this year, they are making an appearance for you wonderful readers.
Here’s What We Need To Make The Witches Broomsticks Appetizer
We just need three, yes three ingredients!
- Pretzel sticks
- Sliced cheese (I used Gouda)
- Chives
REMEMBER, The full recipe and instructions is found at the end of the post in the recipe card.
How To Make these Halloween Broomstick Snacks
These are easy to make, but they do take a little bit of time. For this recipe I made 24 sticks, it took me about 20 minutes. So depending on how many you make will depend on how long it takes.
- Cut cheese – I used slices of Gouda cheese for my recipe. I cut each slice into three strips. Then i made tiny slits in the cheese leaving a 1/2 border at the top. I cut each long strip into 3 equal parts.
- Wrap the pretzel – wrap the cheese around the the bottom of the pretzel stick.
- Tie with a chive – use chives to secure the cheese around the pretzel.
Time Saving Tip! Cut all your cheese before hand and keep covered in the fridge until you plan to put them together.
Can These Pretzel Appetizers Be made In advance
Yes, you can make these a few hours before serving, no problem. Make them, and store them in an airtight container in the fridge. If you allow any air into them, the pretzels will go stale, so be careful when storing if making these in advance.

Yes, never even thought about Harry Potter! This is the fist year, in over six years, that I’ve done anything on the blog for Halloween. Oh, one cupcake recipe…lol. Have a great Saturday Vince.
