These Fig and Camembert Tarts are the perfect little grown up appetizer. Puff pastry topped with caramelized leeks, Camembert and fresh figs. Delicious!
When I was out shopping yesterday morning, they were on sale and all perfectly ripe. I bought just a few as they don’t last long. My plan was to put them in a salad. Well, that didn’t quite happen, Instead they turned out into these little canapรฉs. I was planning to cook something hearty for dinner last night as it was getting a bit chilly outside. That didn’t quite happen either. We ended up with tapas and these little tarts being the center of attention.
If you are not used to cooking with figs, you should start. They have an amazing, almost exotic, flavour. I have to admit, I’ve never been a huge fan as I just found them a tad on the sweet side.
However, when mixed up with something on the savory side, that’s a whole different story. In this appetizer, we have pastry, leeks, cheese and then figs. We absolutely loved these and hope you enjoy them as well.

Fig & Camembert Tarts
Ingredients
- 1 leek cut into very thin slices
- 1 fig thinly sliced length ways into 8 slices
- 3 oz Camembert cheese cut into slices
- 1 sheet Puff pastry enough to cut out 8 circles with a cookie cutter
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- In a medium skillet set over a medium heat, melt the butter and add the leeks. Cook, stirring regularly for about 10-12 minutes, or until the leeks are tender and slightly browned
- Place a teaspoon of the leeks over each pastry, then top with the cheese and finally a a fig slice.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven for about 15 minutes. The pastry should be puffed and lightly golden as well as the cheese melted. I topped them each with a parsley leaf. They should be served straight away.
