These Old School Beef Tacos are just like the box kit, only better! Easy to make using ground beef and a homemade taco seasoning for a great flavour. Just add your favourite toppings.

Old School Tacos

Admittedly, these tacos probably don’t really need a recipe.  I know, it’s almost like cheating.  It really is, sorry! 

But sometimes, we are looking for quick ways to have dinner and we don’t always think about things like, dare I say, THE BOX TACO KIT.  I know, I said it.  Culinary snobs, please look away now because this is about to get painful….hahaha!

Old School Tacos

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 taco shells
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 Garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 Tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons cumin
  • 1 Teaspoon paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 Cup cheddar cheese grated
  • 2 Tomatoes diced
  • Salsa your choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat a large skillet over medium to high heat for a few minutes. Add the olive oil and garlic and stir for a minute. Add the ground beef and start breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Continue doing this until the meat has cooked, about 8 – 10 minutes. Add the water, tomato paste, cumin, paprika, salt and black pepper. Stir really well and reduce heat to low for about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. Put the taco shells on a baking tray and put in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 3 – 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. Assemble tacos with meat, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and salsa. Serve!

Notes about the tacos

  • Okay, you will see in the “recipe” below that I did actually put together my own seasoning.  Wow!  It’s super easy and quick and there is no explanation.  But you can use the seasoning in the box kit and there is no shame in that, at all!
