Lazy summer mornings call for breakfast. Right now I can’t think of anything better than this stack of Chocolate Chip Waffles topped off with fresh summer berries. A perfect start to any day.
Okay, so because I have been writing this food blog for more than three years now, I know I can get a bit repetitive at times. First of all, three years! How did that even happen. It was on a whim that I started it after a friend suggested it seemed something I could do. At the time, I laughed at the idea, “A food blog, me, no thanks.” Clearly, I got over that notion as I’m over 600 recipes and three years knee deep into this thing now. No turning back as they say.
Recipes & Repetition
Sometimes there is only a few ingredient changes to a recipe and it becomes a new post. Why?
I am bringing this to light simply because I have been asked this question and at the time just kind of shrugged my shoulders with no decent response. Don’t we all hate that when in the moment we don’t have the correct answer of that we really want to say? Then when we lay in bed at night, a million and one answers start swilling around only to keep you awake wondering why you are not quicker on your feet? Or your tongue? I know it’s not just me.
So, after giving it some thought I knew easily what my response was. It’s because a food blog isn’t a cook book. It isn’t a once in a lifetime grand gesture to get this out there and for everyone to “ohhh and ahhh”. No, it’s just a food blog with mostly food, a little bit of life and a little bit of laughter. Mostly new recipes, sometimes older ones revamped and occasionally a copied recipe from a different source. A bit of mix and match shall we say and it’s all good.
And Now Waffles
These waffles that I have here today have the addition of chocolate chips and topped off with a few berries. That might be the only change to the original recipe a few years ago. And why I do it sometimes, it merely to give a bit of inspiration. I remember once upon a time when I didn’t cook and if it wasn’t laid out in front of me exactly how to do it, it wasn’t happening. I would never stray from a recipe, like at all! If the recipe called for chocolate chips and I only had white chocolate chips, I would just skip the recipe. And I am sure there are people out there like my old self that like to see a recipe and follow it to the letter.
I know I topped these Waffles with fresh berries but the Triple Berry & Mango Fruite Salad could work well also.
So when you see something that seems a bit familiar, it probably is a bit familiar. Sometimes I have so many recipe ideas swilling around I can’t keep track and other times I just add chocolate chips.
Notes about the waffles
Honestly, there really isn’t much to say at all about these waffles. They are so basic and easy. It is literally all in the recipe below and I don’t you can mess it up if you try.
- Oh, maybe I would like to add that I think you should grease the waffle maker before using. Some waffle makers and even recipes say don’t grease. From experience, I have learned that you really should. Especially if adding something to the batter like chocolate chips or berries.
- Also, the longer you leave the waffle in the waffle maker, the crispier it will become. So, if you want crisper waffles, leave them in a bit longer.

Chocolate Chip Waffles
- 2 Cups plain flour
- 2 Teaspoons sugar
- 1 Teaspoon salt
- 2 Teaspoons baking powder
- 2 Cups whole milk
- 2 Tablespoons butter melted
- 4 eggs
- 1 Cup chocolate chips
- Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk to combine and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, combine eggs, milk and the melted butter. Whisk to combine.
- Add milk mixture to the dry ingredients and whisk until combine. Stir in chocolate chips.
- In a preheated waffle maker, pour batter in until the bottom is completely covered. Put lid down and cook for about 3 – 5 or until golden and risen. Remove waffle and repeat for further waffles.
- Show served here with fresh berries.
