These Easy Apple and Cinnamon Turnovers are better than the box brand and they are so easy to make. Using freezer puff pastry and a homemade apple pie filling, these come together quickly and make a great breakfast, snack or even a dessert.

They already featured on the blog a few years ago, but I thought they could do with a little refresher.  Every now and again, I redo some photos when  I have the the time or remember.  Today these little turnovers got a wee bit of a makeover.

Notes About The Turnovers

  • I used frozen puff pastry
  • Allow the filling to cool before filling the pastry. The pastry will tear if the filling is too hot

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 4 Apples peeled, cored and diced small
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup water
  • 1-2 Tablespoons white sugar for sprinkling
  • 1 Egg for brushing the pastry

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and grease a large baking tray. Cut the pastry into 8 squares and arrange them on your baking tray.
  • In a large skillet set over medium to high heat, add the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir until it starts to bubble and toss in the apples. Stir to coat all the apples and add the water. Reduce heat to low-medium, cover and leave to cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Apples should be soft and a nice golden brown colour. Remove from heat. Place a tablespoon of the apple mixture in the centre of each pastry square. Fold each pastry square over into a triangle and use your fingers to press the sides together. Brush the pastry with the egg, make slits in the top of the pastry and sprinkle with a little bit of sugar. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until puffed and golden. Delicious straight out of the oven.
