Ingredients

  • Egg noodles – I used very small egg noodles for this recipe. They are short and curly noodles that we bought at Aldi supermarket. Any kind of egg noodles will work for this recipe.
  • Sesame oil – Sesame oil adds a great flavour to stir fry recipes. You can generally buy it at your local supermarket with the other oils.
  • Shrimp – I used frozen raw shrimp that come in their shells and need to be peeled and cleaned before cooking.
  • Celery – Make sure to use fresh and crisp celery for this recipe for best results.
  • Onion – A small white onion cut into about 1 inch pieces.
  • Garlic – Fresh garlic adds extra flavour to the dish. I used fresh garlic, but you could use jar garlic.
  • Sweet chili sauce – I used a store bought sweet chili sauce. This is a pre made sauce that includes ginger, garlic, sugar, chilies and vinegar.
  • Soy sauce – This adds a salty and very savoury flavour to the stir fry.
  • Sesame seeds – Topping the dish with sesame seeds before serving adds a extra flavor and texture.

NOTE, The full recipe and ingredient list can be found at the end of the post in the recipe card.

Ingredients to Make a Shrimp and Noodle Stir Fry

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles – Cook the noodles in boiling water for about 4 minutes or until cooked. Remove from the water and drain and set aside.
  2. Cook shrimp – In a large deep sided skillet set over medium heat, add one tablespoon of the sesame oil and the shrimp. Cook the shrimp until they turn pink and are fully cooked. This will take about 3 – 4 minutes. Remove the shrimp from the pan.
  3. Sautee vegetables – In the same pan over medium heat, add the remaining sesame oil, celery and onions. Cook down for about 5 – 8 minutes until the vegetables are starting to go soft. Add the garlic and stir well until fragrant. About 1 more minute.
  4. Finish stir fry – Add the shrimp and the cooked noodles to the vegetables. Stir well to combine. Add the sweet chili sauce and the soy sauce. Stir well to combine and keep it over low heat for about 1 – 2 minutes.
  5. Garnish search – Remove from heat and top with sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Recipe Tips

  • Cooking shrimp – Shrimp cook pretty quickly, so pay attention. As soon as they start to curl in and turn pink, they will be cooked. This will take between 3 – 4 minutes.
  • Cooking noodles – Egg noodles cook quickly. The variety I used, cooked in just 4 minutes. If you overcook noodles, they will often stick together. So check the pack that you are using and see the instructions.
