What Are These Dinner Rolls Like
- Difficulty – These rolls take about three hours to make from start to finish. I would say they are about medium difficulty. I strongly suggest you follow the step by step photos and instructions if you are new to making bread.
- Taste – A fluffy white dinner roll topped with garlic butter.
- Serving – This recipe makes 15 good sized dinner rolls.

Ingredients
- Flour – Bread flour is the best flour to use in making bread. It is higher in gluten and protein which will lend it to rising and having a light and fluffy bread texture.
- Sugar – Sugar adds a touch of sweetness to the bread as well as helps activate the yeast.
- Yeast – I used instant dry yeast for this recipe. Instant dry yeast is added directly to the dry ingredients so you don’t need to add it to warm liquid.
- Salt – Salt is necessary to bread to enhance the flavours.
- Liquids – I used a combination of water and milk for these rolls. Water provided the structure and milk adds to the lightness and flavour.
- Butter – Melted butter is added to the bread dough for a little extra richness.
- Garlic butter topping – I made this using unsalted butter, garlic, salt and fresh parsley.

- Leave it in a warm place to rise for one to two hours to rise. The dough should double in size.
- Punch the dough down and then divide it into 15 equal parts.

Recipe Tips
- Use bread flour – I strongly recommend using bread/strong flour for these dinner rolls. It contain higher protein which produces more gluten. This ensures the bread rises properly.
- Make sure the water is at the correct temperature – If the water is too cold, the yeast won’t activate. On the flip side, if it’s too hot, the yeast won’t work. Yeast will be activated between 105 degrees F (40 degrees C) and 115 degrees F (46 degrees C).
- Knead the dough until elastic – It’s important to knead the dough until it’s soft and elastic. This means it was easily be stretched. Kneading the dough will vary in times. Generally anywhere between 3 – 5 minutes.

Substitutions
- I don’t recommend any substitutions for the bread rolls. I have been making these for years and they have been perfected to the exact recipe as written.
- You can add parmesan cheese to the topping for an extra flavour if you would like.

Serving and Storage
- Serve them with soups – It goes without saying that these Dinner Rolls go great soups like the Slow Cooker Minestrone Soup, Leek & Potato Soup and so many more.
- They are great on their own – And of course, these are wonderful on their own warm out of the oven.
