What are These Puff Pastry Bites Like
- Difficulty – This is a very easy recipe that requires only four ingredients. The novice cook can easily make them with no hesitation.
- Taste – Tastes like a margarita pizza on a buttery puffy crust. If you love Pizza, these are for you!
- Serving – This recipe will make anywhere between 28 – 36 little pizza bites. Depending on the size of your puff pastry and how you cut them. That will serve about six people as an appetizer.
Ingredients
- Puff pastry – I used one sheet of frozen puff pastry.
- Pizza sauce – You can use any kind of pizza sauce for this recipe.
- Cheese – Grated mozzarella cheese works best.
- Oregano – 2 tablespoons dried oregano.
NOTE, The full recipe and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Instructions
- Preheat oven – Preheat oven to 375 degrees F/190 degrees C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Cut pastry into squares – Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 35 bite sized squares (or however many your sheet will make). I cut these into 2 inch/5 cm squares.
- Top pastry bites – Lay all the squares onto the baking tray. Top each pastry square with a little pizza sauce and sprinkle over mozzarella cheese and top with a little oregano.
- Bake – Bake between 15 – 18 minutes or until the pastry has puffed up, the cheese is melted and they are golden.
- Serve – Remove from oven and serve immediately.
Recipe Tips
- Make sure the puff pastry is cold – Puff pastry is much easier to work with when it’s cold. So take it out of the fridge just before using.
- Use parchment paper – This will ensure you get the pizza bites off the tray easily.
- Prep ahead – You can prepare these up to about four hours before baking. Just cover them with foil and keep them in the fridge until baking time.
Substitutions and Flavour Changes
- Puff pastry – You can use Pizza Dough for these little bites.
- Pizza sauce – I used my Easy No Cook Pizza Sauce. But you can easily use store bought pizza sauce or make Homemade Marinara Sauce if you have a lot of time!
- Additions – Pepperoni, chopped peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, red onions, olives or any other of your favourite toppings. You can also add some fresh toppings like fresh basil or fresh arugula when the pizza bites come out of the oven.
Serving
These are great served hot out of the oven. But they can easily be served at room temperature. You can eat them just as they are or serve fresh Marinara Sauce on the side for dipping. Browse the Appetizers section to find for nibbles to serve with these easy bites.
