If you love shrimp, you really want to make these soon. Not only are they easy to make, they are quick and tasty.

I am a HUGE shrimp fan, and if you look around the blog, you’ll find so many shrimp recipes. From Appetizers to Main Course to Salad recipes, it’s all here. I don’t know if I have a favourite or not, but the Honey Garlic Shrimp with a Fresh Quinoa is one to check out. That’s a great one for spring.

But for the here and now, we’re talking about these delicious little bites of goodness friends! These disappeared so fast when I made them just recently. I already know they are going to be a new favourite.

So, let’s take a look and see them come together.

What You Need To Make The Spiced Honey Lime Shrimp

Most important, start with some good shrimp. I buy raw shrimp in their shells and then clean them myself. If you find this too fussy, make sure you buy good sized shrimp that aren’t just frozen in ice to make them look big!

Here’s the run down of what we need.

  • Shrimp
  • Honey
  • Soy Sauce
  • Sriracha sauce (or any hot sauce)
  • Lime juice
  • Salt
  • Green onions (optional)

REMEMBER, the full recipe and ingredient list is always found at the end of the post in the recipe card.

Make The Marinade For The Spiced Shrimp

This literally takes minutes to put together once you have cleaned the shrimp.

TIPS FOR PEELING AND CLEANING RAW SHRIMP. Hold the body firmly and twist off the head. Start at the top and open up the shell and pull it off, leaving the tail in tact. Using a small pairing knife, run it along the outside spine and deveine the shrimp.

  • Add all the marinade ingredients to a bowl and whisk to combine. NOTE: This can be done in advance to save time later on. But don’t add the shrimp until a few minutes before cooking. The acid in the limes will start to “cook” the shrimp if left in the marinade too long.

Putting Together The Shrimp and Cooking Them

I cooked these on skewers, but you don’t have to if you prefer to just have them loose.

To cook on The Shrimp on skewers
  • Have ready metal or wooden skewers. Arrange about 5 shrimp per skewer.
  • Preheat a cast iron skillet on the stove over a high heat and add a little olive oil.
  • Add the shrimp skewers. Cook each side for about 3 minutes, pressing down the shrimp as they cook to ensure even cooking. Flip half way through cooking and finish the other side until they are no longer opaque and white in colour.
To Cook The Shrimp Without The Skewers
  • Preheat a cast iron skillet on the stove over a high heat and add a little olive oil.
  • Add the shrimp and give a good stir. Cook over high heat for about 4 – 5 minutes or until no longer opaque.
  • Remove from heat immediately

Enjoy the Spiced Shrimp

To give it a bit extra, squeeze over some fresh lime juice and sprinkle over freshly chopped green onions. A great weekend appetizer!

These little bites are great served just as they are. But if you are looking for something to serve them with, why not try the Feta & Tomato Salad Cups or the Roasted Cherry Tomato & Cannelloni Bean Salad, yum! The Paprika Spiced Potato Wedges would also be a great choice.

Can I Make These In advance to Serve Later

Friends, the cold hard truth is NO! Shrimp is best served fresh and there is no real way around it. BUT, you can get them all ready to cook.

What You Can Prep In Advance For The Shrimp
  • Peel and clean the shrimp and store them in the fridge.
  • Make the marinade and store in an airtight container in the fridge.

With these two steps out of the way, you can simply assemble and cook just before serving.
