It’s never too early in the season to break into food on sticks. So why not let’s start today with these Sweet and Spicy Chicken Kebabs. Tender chicken marinaded in a sauce made from ketchup, brown sugar, sriracha and much more to bring an amazing flavour to these kebabs. Great served with the Paprika Spiced Potato Wedges or even a salad like the Zucchini Pasta Salad in a Lemon Vinaigrette.
Yes, barbecuing in the winter is a thing. No judgement friends…hahaha. Besides, I have to remind you that I do live in southern Spain, where it’s pretty much barbecue season all year long. I mean the day temperature never drops to freezing here. Okay, we’ve had the odd day. But nothing like my homegrown roots back in Newfoundland. Brrr!
So, I’m starting barbeuce season early for all your folks out there that don’t mind clearing the snow off the grill or to those of you that have that ray of sunshine all year long.
All About These Sweet and Spicy Chicken Kebabs
- These were a sweet, spicy and tangy Kebab. The kids woofed them down and I enjoyed them as well. They had just enough spice to be declared spicy, but there was a sweetness that guided them to the softer pallet.
- You can leave out the chili, if you prefer them not too spicy.
For best results, I recommend marinading them for about an hour. Marinading can even be done overnight.
We ended up having a big green salad, couscous and minted yogurt dip to go along with this chicken A very tasty meal indeed.

Sweet & Spicy Kebabs
Ingredients
- 2 Chicken breasts cut into bite size pieces
- 2/3 Cup ketchup
- 3 Tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 Tablespoons sriracha sauce
- 1 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tablespoons white vinegar
- 3 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 cloves garlic crushed
- 1 Dried chili very finely chopped
- 1/2 Teaspoon salt
- Fresh ground black pepper
Instructions
- In a small saucepan set over medium low heat, add the ketchup, soy sauce, sriracha sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, chill, salt and pepper. Give a good stir and leave to simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and leave to cool slightly.
- Add the chicken pieces to a large bowl and pour over marinade. Stir well, cover and refrigerate for at least an hour. When ready to cook, remove from fridge and put the chicken pieces on skewer sticks. I usually put about 5 pieces of chicken on a skewer. You can put on as much as you like. Once you have finished with all your sticks, put them in a large baking tray. Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F oven for about 20 minutes. Remove from oven and turn all the kebabs over. Return to over for a further 10 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.
- Remove from oven and serve straight away with your favourite side dishes.
