These Chicken Tenders in a Creamy Sun Dried Tomato Sauce are a must make dinner. Lightly seasoned chicken tenders cooked until golden and added to a decadent sun dried tomato sauce. Great served with pasta.

You don’t often think of chicken tenders in a creamy sauce which is why I thought you’d all love this recipe! An honest to goodness great chicken recipe with tons of flavour and you can double the recipe to feed a crowd.

Creamy Skillet Chicken Tenders

Ingredients

  • Chicken – This recipe uses chicken tenders.
  • Chicken broth – Is used to make the sauce in this recipe.
  • Heavy cream – Gives the sauce a creamy texture.
  • Sun dried tomatoes – I used sun dried tomatoes packed in oil for an amazing flavour.
  • Parmesan cheese – This adds so much richness to the sauce.
  • Seasonings – I used a combination of dried oregano, dried basil, dried rosemary, salt and pepper.
  • Fresh garlic – Adds a lot of flavour to the over all dish.
  • Olive oil – Used in cooking the chicken and the sauce.
  • Flour – This is used to thicken the sauce.
  • Fresh herbs – I used a small amount of fresh parsley to finish off the dish.

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken tenders with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet set over high heat. Add the chicken tenders and cook for for 4 – 5 minutes on each side. Remove from pan and set aside.
  3. In the reserved skillet, reduce heat to medium and add remaining olive oil and garlic. Stir well for about 30 seconds and add the dried oregano, basil and rosemary. Stir well for a further 30 seconds. Add the sun dried tomatoes, stir and sautee for about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the tablespoon of flour and stir in well. Slowly pour in the chicken broth, whisking as you pour to avoid lumps. Add heavy cream and continue to whisk until you have a smooth sauce, about one minute.
  5. Add the chicken tenders to the sauce and bring to a gentle simmer. Evenly sprinkle over parmesan cheese and reduce heat to low. Cook for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve.

Recipe Tips

  • Cooking the chicken – Chicken tenders cook relatively quickly. These cooked in exactly 8 minutes. Yours could take a little longer or may even cook quicker. Cooking times vary depending on your stove as well as the type of pan you are using.
  • Making the sauce – It’s important to whisk as you pour the broth into the pan when making the sauce. Otherwise you will risk lumps in the sauce.

Substitutions

  • Chicken – I used chicken tenders in this recipe and they worked fantastic. Alternatively, you could use chicken cutlets or chicken breasts. If you use chicken breast, I recommend flattening them out to about 1 inch thick before cooking. And keep in mind cooking time will vary.
  • Sun dried tomatoes – I used sun dried tomatoes packed in oil. If you choose to use the dry kind. Remember, they will have to be re hydrated. You do this by placing them in warm water for about two hours.
  • Heavy cream – You can substitute half and half or even whole milk.
  • Chicken broth – This gave the sauce a great flavour, but you can use vegetable broth as well.
  • Fresh herbs – I used fresh parsley, but you could also use fresh basil. If you prefer, you could omit the fresh herbs all together.
