Ingredients

  • Pizza dough – you can use homemade pizza dough for this recipe or even store bought. I used homemade and you can find a recipe for the pizza dough.
  • Alfredo sauce – the Alfredo sauce uses butter, flour, milk, parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and dried oregano
  • Pizza toppings – I used button mushrooms that I sauteed down in olive oil and shredded mozzarella cheese.

REMEMBER, The full recipe and instructions is always found at the end of the post in the recipe card.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven – Preheat oven to 475 degrees f. Place the rack in the lowest setting and your pizza stone or cast iron pan on top of the rack.
  2. Make the Alfredo sauce – Make the sauce. In a medium saucepan set over medium heat, add the butter until it melts. Whisk in the flour and continue to whisk until you have a paste. Slowly whisk in the milk and stir constantly until you have added all the milk and you have a thick sauce, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and add parmesan, oregano, salt and pepper. Stir and set aside.
  3. Sautee mushrooms – In a medium skillet set over medium heat, add the olive oil and mushrooms. Cook for about 5 – 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
  4. Roll out pizza dough – Place the dough ball on a lightly floured surface and press it down with your hand. Start stretching the dough with your hands. Stretch the dough out to large rectangle.
  5. Transfer pizza dough to parchment paper – Place the pizza dough on top of a sheet of parchment paper. Then place it on top of a pizza board (this will make it easy to slide it into the oven).
  6. Top the pizza – Top the pizza with the Alfredo sauce, mozzarella cheese and sauteed mushrooms. Brush the edges of the pizza with the olive oil.
  7. Cook the pizza – Slide the pizza into the oven on the preheated oven. Bake between 6 – 8 minutes.
  8. Serve – Remove from oven and let sit for a couple of minutes. Top with fresh arugula if using. Cut and serve.

Recipe Tips

  • Pizza dough – for this recipe I used my own homemade premade Pizza Dough. The recipe time stated below does not include the time it takes to make pizza dough. For this recipe you can use you own dough, purchased pizza dough or a purchased thin crust pizza crust.
  • Pizza assembly – I always like to assemble my pizza on a sheet of parchment paper placed on top of a pizza board. This makes it very easy to slide the pizza into the oven. The pizza will go in the oven on top of the parchment paper.
  • Cooking the pizza – It’s very important to have a preheated surface in the oven to place your pizza on top of. I can’t stress this enough. It’s best to use a heavy surface like a pizza stone, cast iron or baking steel. If you don’t have any of those things, use a baking sheet of any kind.
  • Cooking time – this pizza cooked in exactly 6 minutes in a preheated 475 degrees f oven. It was cooked with the rack at the lowest setting and on a preheated cast iron surface. Cooking time will vary depending on what surface you are cooking your pizza on and how hot your oven is.

Substitutions

  • Making the Alfredo sauce – I like to use parmesan cheese in my Alfredo sauce for the pizza. You could use Gouda cheese or
  • Cheese – I used mozzarella cheese to top the pizza. But you can use any flavour cheese you like. Goat cheese would be great on this pizza.
  • Oregano – This recipe uses dried oregano but you can easily use fresh herbs like basil or even mint for a fresh flavour.

What To Serve with The Pizza

We all know that pizza is just great on it’s own. But there is nothing wrong with serving it with a great Grilled Cajun Chicken Salad on the side or even a light and simple Classic Caprese Salad.
