How to Prep and Put Together the chicken Skewers
- Make the Barbeuce Sauce, For this recipe I’m using my Homemade Barbecue Sauce which is so versatile and easy to make. Instructions are in the recipe below.
- Cut the chicken into cubes, I like to cut the chicken into cubes, you can do strips if you prefer. Just don’t cut them too thin. This chicken will be juicer if left in bigger pieces.
- Add the chicken to the barbecue sauce, you can do this just before cooking, the day of cooking or even the day before.
- Skewer the chicken onto sticks, I used metal sticks in this recipe, but you can use wooden ones not problem. For best results, tightly pack the chicken onto the sticks. I got six skewers for 2lbs of chicken.
TIP FOR COOKING ON WOODEN SKEWERS, To avoid the skewers burning on the barbecue soak them in water for about half an hour before putting the chicken on the skewers.
How To Cook The Skewers
- I used a gas barbecue to cook these Chicken Skewers. The grill was preheated for about 10 minutes to a medium to high heat. I cooked them for about 10 minutes per side. The chicken should be juicy but not pink when fully cooked.
- Yes, you can cook them on a charcoal barbecue. Cooking time will vary depending on the heat of your barbecue.
- Spoon over excess barbecue sauce while they cook, after you put all the skewers on the barbecue, you should had sauce left in your pan. Spoon this over while cooking.
Grilled Chicken Skewers Ready to Enjoy
There is no doubt it, these are best served hot off the grill. I don’t recommend making them in advance to serve later. So for best results, serve them as soon as you cook them.

Can These Be cooked without a Barbecue Grill
Yes friends, they sure can. We’ve all been there, we want to barbecue and then we get a change or weather, there’s no charcoal or the gas barbecue is out of gas. No problem, here’s what to do.
- Cook them on the stove top, I’ve done this many times. Just heat a large skillet or skillet with grill lines over medium to high heat. Add a little olive oil and add them to the pan. Cook on all sides until no longer pink and cooked through. Will probably take 15 minutes or so.
- Can be cooked under a broiler in the oven, place the chicken skewers in a baking sheet and place directly under the broiler in the oven. Cook them for about 10 minutes per side or until cooked through.
Can I Prepare These in Advance
Yes, you sure can. And that’s what so great about these and many Kebab recipes.
- The Barbecue Sauce can be made in advance and stored up to two weeks in the fridge!
- You can marinade the chicken up to one day before cooking it. If doing this, place it in either a ziplock bag or an airtight container.
